This place is so so solid. We got the Mongolian beef, beef chow fun, and rock cod with greens. It was all like the platonic ideal representation of what those dishes should be. The rock cod is especially amazing. So tender and fragrant.
There is limited walking space within the restaurant, but once you get your table and order, your food will be there in no time! Great for all groups!
Ordered the braised beef egg noodle soup, good chunks of meat and the food came out almost instantly. Only con is the restaurant only accepts cash.
No one comes here for the service or ambiance. Large amounts of good and cheap Chinese food. Wonton soup is good. Chinese bbq stuff is good. Rules of thumb for hole in the wall Chinese restaurants. If the servers are slightly rude the food is probably going to be fantastic. Another good sign is the white to Asian ratio of customers. The more white people the place is trading off ambiance for food. Slightly rude servers and 1 white person the time I was here. Recommend. Cash only.
Porridge King is definitely one of those rare instances where to me they outperform their super low Yelp rating. This restaurant has definitely been a staple for over a decade whenever I go on my Ranch 99 trips nearby. Most of the complaints are about service and I will say it might not be the best, but I always come in with low expectations in that aspect and the servers are typically nice enough even if there are some communication blunders at times.
What surprises me is how clean their kitchen also looks which lets me honest isn't always the case for these kinds of restaurants. If you want some good Chinese comfort food then this is a pretty good spot.
In my most recent visit I ordered the Beef Chow Fun ($15.25), Sautéed String Bean ($15.50), Garlic Chicken Half Size ($12). Their Beef Chow Fun is honestly better than most places and their beef has the perfect amount of tenderness. Whenever I'm craving a plate of delicious greasy noodles like Beef Chow Fun then this is a great place to indulge in that type of dish. Their Garlic Chicken is also surprisingly really good. You can really taste the garlic flavor and even the white meat and chicken breast portion is pretty juicy and flavorful. The string beans are pretty standard, but I rate it very highly as well. Would definitely recommend all three dishes.
I always want their roast pork, but they typically sell out very early so you'd have to come by lunch time or earlier.
If you're ever visiting this area then this is definitely one of the better food options to go to and everyone's experience may be different, but overall I have no complains and enjoyed all my visits here.
